Travel Tips :: Where to stay, how to get to Lindau

International/National Travel

The hotel Bayerischer Hof is situated directly on the Lake promenade of the medieval island town of Lindau. You can reach it easily by train. Friedrichshafen, the nearest airport, is only 20 km away. Stuttgart, Munich and Zurich airports are also good starting points for a trip to Lindau.

By Air / Train

Friedrichshafen
Friedrichshafen is by far the nearest airport. From the UK there is a direct link to Friedrichshafen Airport from London Stansted with the low cost carrier Ryanair.

If you arrive in Germany from overseas on a standard carrier you will very likely have to travel through Frankfurt. There is also a direct link from Frankfurt to Friedrichahafen airport with Lufthansa operated by Eurowings.
From Friedrichshafen airport you can catch a train to Lindau main station. The train station at Friedrichshafen airport is directly opposite the airport arrival building. If you time it correctly you can get a direct train to Lindau without having to change at the Friedrichshafen main station.

Zurich
Zurich in Switzerland is the next nearest airport and if you time it correctly it is also possible to get a direct train from Zurich airport to Lindau however, you are likely to have to change 2 or 3 times at other times of the day and may need to get the ferry across Lake Constance (Bodensee) from Romanshon to Friedrichshafen (which by the way is a very nice opportunity to get to know the Lake Constance area).

Munich
Trains from Munich airport are going to take between 3 and 4 hours and will require at least 1 change and possibly up to 3 depending on the time of day.

Stuttgart
At least 1 change and up to 3 is likely to get to Lindau and it ill take 3.5 to 4 hours.

See http://www.bahn.de for any train enquiries.

By Car

You will have no difficulties in reaching the hotel by car. Leave the highway/motorway/Autobahn A 96 at the "Lindau" exit and follow the signs to "Lindau - Insel". After having crossed the Seebruecke bridge, stay on the priority street, pass the first car-park at the Inselhalle and turn left in front of the HypoVereinsbank. Drive on to the train station, where directly opposite is the Hotel Bayerischer Hof.
