| LMS KOs
This session will discuss building Authorware-based
content for integration
with a Learning Management System (LMS). We will:
* Introduce the LMS standards (AICC and SCORM)
* Briefly discuss the different components that may be used for importing
and tracking Authorware-based compliant content (content communication,
learning object metadata and manifest files)
* Build a file using the Authorware Knowledge Objects (in conjunction
with
the LMS Emulator) and publish for the LMS Standards
* Discuss the advantage of using the LMS KOs (while looking at how you
can
develop your own communication mechanism)
* Review issues associated with integrating with LMSs and look at
best-practices
Advanced LMS integration
Developer and User Experiance:
Development experience
-------------------------
A lot of times it
seems like developers are developing as if they are the ONLY person to
use the code. They don't consider other folks or working in a team. I've
seen code that sucks, because the developer didn't plan on re-use or
having other people work with them.
User experience
----------------
When developing, you have to consider both the client AND the end-user.
We've all heard and experienced bad clients - but they are still clients
AND
there is a bigger client to consider - the end-user. What they experience
has to be considered when you are developing. It seems even worse, when
we
as developers take on the role of Instructional Design. This would simply
remind folks of that and present some small things developers can do
to
improve the user experience.
Andrew Chemey started at Macromedia on the Authorware 3 development
team.
He is the developer of the LMS Knowledge Objects for Authorware.
In addition
to working with Macromedia on the Authorware, CourseBuilder and Flash
development teams, he has been an independent consultant for content
developers and LMS vendors; helping to build and integrate AICC and
SCORM
standards-compliant content and LMSs alike.
